Why?
Acupuncture stimulates the body’s repair mechanisms in the nervous system, immune system, and hormonal and cellular systems. Amongst other conditions, it can be transformational for old arthritic pets and in the last few years.
Popularity has surged throughout UK veterinary practices and edge referral hospitals and gained increasing recognition as a useful adjunct to modern medicine in animals as well as humans. Not only does it help minimise the requirements for medications (which may have undesirable side effects), but it is extremely safe when practised correctly.
Under UK law, animal acupuncture may only be administered by appropriately qualified veterinary surgeons and is covered by the majority of pet insurance companies if recommended by your primary care vet.
Acupuncture treatment should first follow an accurate diagnosis and appraisal of all treatment options. In many cases, acupuncture is best used in conjunction with conventional medicine, and in some conditions, it can be used as a sole treatment.
At Polmenna Vets acupuncture is practiced by Cordelia Gamble MA VetMB MRCVS, a vet with over 20 years experience treating companion animals in the UK and accredited with the ABVA (Association of British veterinary acupuncturists).
